The lunation cycle as a clown story

The Sun and the Moon are in a relationship...

Our parents embodied, to a certain extent, the energies of Sun and Moon. 

They were more than just two to pick and choose from. Mum and Dad were in a relationship. 

Even if one had disappeared never to reappear again, we knew we came from two, and still had our "soul settings on "two sources"...

Now, our parents were only representatives of the energies of Sun and Moon, beyond them we can  see oursleves as children of  Sun and Moon as cosmic energies. 

The relationship between Sun and Moon in the horoscope is shown by the phases of the Moon: the New Moon happens when Sun and Moon are conjunct, the Full Moon when they are opposed, the first and last quarter when they form a square....  

The phase of the Moon we were born under is as meaningful as the signs and houses Sun and Moon are in. We are more naturally attuned to what happens at this phase of the cycle;  

If the Moon was alone she would only repeat again and again the same patterns:

When I was 10 year old, I remember wondering: 

"Why do I have to go to school?  I don't like sitting in a classroom all day long, that's not the life of my dreams!  My parents are sacrificing themselves for me to be able to go to school (that was the narrative...) They are sacrificing themselves so that I can have a good job, earn money, get married, have children.... and sacrifice myself in turn?!! What's the point? There must be more to life than repeating the same cycle again and again!" 

This was the Sun in me rebelling against the Moon.  On principle, being a child, going to school, getting married and so on could and should be a happy story. However, happy or not, the Moon, by herself, only keeps the memories of the past and reproduces them. As the saying goes: History repeats itself.   

Is this all the Moon does? If she was alone, yes, that would be it. She has memory of patterns and reproductive powers. 

However, the Sun wants creation. Sun energy wants everyone of us to shine in our own special way. Sun wants individuality, or individuation. 

Sun can be understood as spirit.   Let there be light! Let there be something new! 

The Sun fecundates the Moon and the Moon will carry more than memories. She will receive the intention and power of the Sun as a seed and build forms to turn it into manifestation.

Clown lunation story. 

New Moon

One day the question was asked to the child: what do you want to be when you grow up? The child said: I want to be a clown! A clown? Are you sure? Yes I'm sure, that's what I want to be! 

The Sun wants to become a clown. The Moon receives this seed-intention. She is the feminine principle. She gets fecundated. Let's make things happen now! 

First Crescent: 

-Child! You're really funny when you make faces in front of the mirror! Why don't you make a little show this Sunday. Granny and Grandpa are coming for lunch, they would love to see a clown and have a good laugh. 

 - Oh Mum I'm scared! Are my cousins coming as well? They are going to laugh at me! I don't want to! 

 - Well child, if you want to be a clown, you'll have to face the public! It's not too early to start! 

 - Yes but I'm scared! .. 

 - It's gonna be ok... 

The New Moon was invisible. The first crescent is very thin, but the moon can be seen now. The little seed confronts reality for the first time. The dream of being a clown meets the old patterns... Is it bad to show off? Is my dream "ridiculous"? What ghosts of the past will the new dream have to confront? 

First quarter. 

The child has been going to clowning workshops, taken part in local events, his budding talent has been acknowledged (got all school parents doubled up with laughter around the time the Sun and Moon formed a sextile). But now there is a serious decision to take. Taking it to the next level means going to a boarding school, far away from home. It's a special school with ten hours per week are dedicated to circus training. Fantastic atmosphere, great results. To become a clown, there is no better option. But mum, teddy bear, dad and friends have to be left behind. There will still be some week ends... 

The first quarter  is a time of crisis in action. It happens when the Moon and the Sun form the first square. In the sky, the Moon is exactly half illuminated, with a straight line dividing its luminous and obscure sides. This square is "separating": the Moon is on her way away from the Sun. 

  

Gibbous Moon. 

Circus school headmaster talking: "OK students. You've made a lot of progress. You master all the basic skills you need to become circus artists. It's time to plan your first real show. This time, it's going to be serious. Your audience won't be a supportive bunch of family members, but a real crowd of people who paid full price tickets and expect to get their money's worth. Let's get to work!"

This phase is a time of wilfull activity oriented towards a goal that is now in sight. Rudayr compares the time of the beginning of this phase, which corresponds to a 135 degree angle (sesqui square) to the time of the first crescent at 45 degree angle (semi square): with the first crescent, it was somehow the external world that opposed the growth of the new little thing, now, the new thing is much stronger and wilfully tackles the difficulties. 

I am presenting these phases as a story where things are going well. As you know, in life, it's not always the case. However I may tell the story of a lunation cycle where everything goes wrong and the fruits bitter another day. You can imagine. I'm just mentioning it here because all the artists are now suffering in the throes of stage fright. The curtain is about to rise...

Full Moon. 

The dream has come true. The clown is clowning. People are laughing. The new clown's inner child is exhilarated. It's strange, on one hand, it is exactly like in the dream. On the other hand not at all. Live is wonderful. You receive so much when you give! So much so much...

Before the full moon, the energy was all focused on taking action. Building, making things happen. Personal development. Now, the time has come to offer the fruit. The times dedicated to self development culminate as relationship: a clown plays for an audience. Power is released.  

The clown is thinking: "This is only the beginning!  What an experience!.." But the Moon is on the wane already...

The Full Moon is a new beginning, a new little seed has been sown, not a seed of more action to undertake, but a seed of consciousness. 

 What's the meaning of all this? What wisdom, what understanding of life will come from this ? What will remain, in the soul, when it will be all over? It's a little bit early to ask this questions clearly, but that's what is growing now: an understanding of the spirit of it. 

Maybe the whole adventure of life is nothing but the story of spirit incarnating for the purpose of understanding itself...

The seed of consciousness  will culminate at the next New Moon as the seed of the next cycle.

 These questions will appear phase after phase. For now, the clown is just living life to the full...

Disseminating Moon. 

The Full Moon was really a peak, a moment of illumination! The public had never ever seen anything like that before!... 

 Now the clown is known and loved by a wide audience. He gives interviews. He explains: there is much more to clowning than just being funny. A deep understanding of human nature is at stake, it's a way to help people bear or even heal their sufferings, a way to pass essential messages, to get people to see things they wouldn't have wanted to look at without the help of a good laugh... 

He is really understanding what he was doing now, and he can explain, teach classes,  he keeps disseminating all  he can give...

 The disseminating phase is the the Full Moon what the first crescent phase was the the New Moon. The new seed of consciousness sown at the Full Moon was entirely subjective, now, it first meets the world and the need to demonstrate itself.

The clown keeps clowning. New talents are appearing, and he is getting a little bit older. 

Last quarter. 

"Already there? Time passed so quickly... The children of today like him like you like a clown that was making your parents laugh. The world is changing. It's time to get used to the idea of  retiring... How will the clowns of tomorrow look? Red noses and enormous shoes are so old school! Where will life be going tomorrow? Maybe there is a need for a complete reformulation of what clowning is about... What being an artist is about... What human life is about... "

The key word used by Dane Rudyar for the last quarter is crisis in consciousness. Leyla Rael uses the word "re orientation". What has been given has been. From the point of view of a growing consciousness, it's time to take some distance - the full committment to action of the First Quarter becomes a full committment to look at the bigger picture... Does it all make sense? 

Balsamic phase

The clown is writting his memoirs. He thought of a title like: "message of an old clown to the world of tomorrow"... He thinks of himself as a kind of Moses who walked all the way through the desert with his people and is about to die as the promised land is in sight. All his experiences, successes and failures, joys and pains, reflections and meditations boil down to.... (that's really the right word: "boil down to") a few essential principles... Hopefully, his legacy will contribute to the joys, laughters and spiritual health of the next generations....

Good bye Moon! 

 

When we were born, the Moon and the Sun were at a particular phase of this Sun-Moon relationship story. This phase is for us as important as our Sun sign, Moon sign and Ascendant. 

Our Sun sign means that we were born during a particular season of the year, and more specifically when in the season: beginning, middle or end. 

 The seasons  and the zodiac tell the whole story of life as well. Born under a particular sign  we become "the man of the moment" or "the woman of the moment": when  life will bring  situations needing someone like us, we will get the job!

The phase of the Moon we were born under has to be understood in the same spirit. Born under a waxing Moon, we are more action driven, waning Moon people being more focused on understanding... If you understand the story of the whole cycle you can easily figure out the personality traits which are characteristic of each phase...

To know more, read The Lunation Cycle by Dane Rudyar. I needed to imagine this clown story to understand it better, however if illustrations help making things clearer, they also give to the most abstract principles a particular twist, which make them lose a bit of their universal validity. So it's important to come back to the most abstract level, as they apply to just about anything alive on this earth.

Going to and fro from the most universal to the most particular and back, repeat...
