Saturn is in exile in Leo
but Saturn is in exile in Leo.
Leo is a sign where things and people show.
They may show up, show off, show how to do things or how they work, they may be a role model, a hero, a dad, one to look up to, a king or a queen…
Saturn on the other hand is a naturally shrinking energy: it crystallises, condenses, hardens. It obscures and cools down.
Saturn is fear, or prudence. It means discipline, the work that is done behind the scenes with patience. Its best expressions are achievement and mastery, the rewards of hard work.
A friend of mine was complaining in front of his four year old son about not having money left. The boy gave him the solution: “Just go to the cash machine!” This made us laugh.
Saturn is being grown up enough to know that money doesn’t grow on trees. Leo loves having fun, but Saturn says “But…”
Some people become artists, dancers, musicians or acrobats. When they perform, you believe that gravity has been cancelled. It takes a lot of work to make-believe it’s easy. Saturn gets special challenges from Leo.
Sometimes, how to do some work (Saturn) is shown by a teacher (Leo). Authorities, the stage is yours!
As an example, let’s watch some videos on Youtube about how to repair a chainsaw, unless you prefer something about non miraculous ways to keep a flat belly.
These videos are of great interest if you are focused and determined.Their value as entertainment is very low, though. Saturn is definitely in exile in Leo.
The more Saturn condenses, darkens and hardens stuff, the less the light can shine through, unless the hard stuff is glass, crystal, or ice. Saturn in Leo can be beautiful like stained glass windows in a gothic cathedral or a collection of healing crystals. I am not saying that if you have Saturn in Leo you are going to build a cathedral, but you may give it some thought. What is your cathedral? What light do you want to see shine through?
Modern astrology is prescriptive rather than predictive. The question is more:
“What can we do with such or such energy” rather than “How will it manifest?” It will manifest, one way or another. We may have some amount of choice.
Traditional astrology used to call Saturn the “Great Malefic”. Saturn and Mars are often announcing painful inner states or outer events.
Some good may come out of it. We may try to accept our soul's growing pains. Personally I would prefer growing through pure enjoyment. We can learn so much simply by playing and loving!
Couldn’t we become aware enough?
Rudolf Steiner said something like: “Evil is good at the wrong place”. This view implies that evil has no absolute existence. It can disappear. The same stone can fall onto your head from the scaffold or contribute to the solidity of the edifice.
Saturn in Leo doesn’t have to manifest in the way it does in Adolf Hitler’s chart, where it is in evidence, culminating near the MC. He was so expressive Adolf, such a good public speaker, so good at mise-en-scène! If you want to become a successful dictator, you need to know how to put up a great show. Charlie Chaplin had Saturn in Leo too. We’re not too sure of his time of birth, he might have had it culminating as well.
The Latin word “monstrare”: “to show” is the etymological root of both “demonstration” and “monster”. Saturn in Leo can manifest as a dark shadow showing its horrible face to the poor world. It can be a gargoyle, a stone sculpture looking like evil to the faithful coming to the cathedral, warning them: you better turn towards the light!
If you have Saturn in Leo, don’t worry. There is a lot more in Hitler’s chart, and on principle, I want to believe that Hitler could have walked another path, with the same chart. He was not such a bad painter. He was especially skilled at painting buildings.
Hasn’t Saturn interest in architecture?
