Saturn in Taurus

What happens when Saturn visits this environment?


Saturn rules over Aquarius and Capricorn.



When Saturn is in Taurus, let’s remember that Taurus and Capricorn are both Earth signs. There should be an amplification of the earthy qualities. It’s a very down to earth placement with ideas of investing in the long term.


We invest money, time, energy and attention into things, activities or people…


Taurus is Wet Earth. Saturn may dry it up. If Saturn shows its malefic side, which is more likely to happen if it is afflicted by challenging aspects or rulerships, the fleshy bull may turn out to be a meagre cow. The green pastures may turn yellow, the properties shrink and the treasure buried under the fireplace disappear.


Let’s remember the dream of the Pharaoh in the Bible (Genesis 41):


“There came up seven cows, sleek and fat, and they grazed among the reeds.

After them, seven other cows, ugly and gaunt, came up out of the Nile and stood beside those on the riverbank.

And the cows that were ugly and gaunt ate up the seven sleek, fat cows.”


The interpretation given by Joseph was: seven years of abundance followed by seven years of scarcity. So better brace for them!

Put some of the harvest aside, save, prepare for difficult times.


The fleshy bull conjures up ideas of fertility and sensuality.

Saturn in Taurus in a chart may make the person, man or woman, less fertile. Shall I repeat, once again, that this can be literal or metaphorical?

Now, as always, we can’t jump to conclusions on the basis of an indicator only.


Sensuality may become a weak point. There are skins, lips and people who look like promises of delight, and others not so much so. Sensuality is not a mere quality of the body, it is an attitude. Some people are more skilled than others at enjoying their food, the caress of the wind on their cheeks, the beauty of some artwork, the sweetness of the kisses of a lover or whatever life gives to enjoy.


With Saturn in Taurus we may resist pleasure as if it was bad. We may feel that we would indulge far too much if we gave free rein to our sensual appetites; we may become excessively repressed instead. Greed may be a symptom of the frustration generated by this attitude.


Small children with Saturn in Taurus may have some difficulty with food and touch. (May. Rest of the chart, etc.)


With Saturn, however, there is always an invitation to train, discipline and master. The fish goes with the flow, the goat extracts itself from it.

If we eat too quickly, if we don’t stop thinking even when we are making love, if we can’t relax without feeling guilty… we can do some inner work to correct that and conquer our own beauty.


The Buddhist or Hindu practice of Vipassana fits Taurus very well: it stresses the interconnection with mind and body. Being aware of life within the body with all its sensations, is a way to practise mindfulness and live in the present moment. Vipassana is a good prescription for Taurus Saturn! Is there a healthy, spiritual way to value the senses? Surely there is! If this Taurus Saturn is in the 9th or 12th house, or in aspect with Jupiter, this interpretation will be especially relevant.


Back down to earth. Saturn’s job is to shape things. In fixed Taurus Saturn will keep them in shape. In what field are you working? On a farm, you’ve got to work hard everyday just to maintain things as they are. You can’t forget to feed the animals. You have to plough and sow and you reap when it’s the right time, not when you feel ready. Sometimes nature is generous and sometimes late spring frosts or hail destroys everything. Better not put all your eggs in the same basket, let alone sell the chicken before they have hatched.

In whatever field you’re working, the hard work of the farm is a metaphor for you.



You may prefer a rich and fertile soil to a poor one full of stones. I’ve heard that in ancient China, there were no good or bad pieces of land. There were only fields that required more work than others. That’s a good illustration for a Taurus Saturn. You are in a field that requires more work.


If instead of a field Taurus inspires you to focus on your body, you may want to shape it. Again, six packs abdomens don’t stay put without regular maintenance.


With placements in Taurus your field is not necessarily agriculture or body building but it’s likely to be concrete enough. As usual with symbols, the literal conditions of farming life apply metaphorically. In economics you get crazy weather as well, inflation and recessions…


Symbols are magical doors. I will never ever be able to capture them and lock them up into a well rounded system.

Nobody will be able to write the textbook that would render contemplating, reflecting and meditating unnecessary. We are ploughing the fields of our own souls!
